Johnny Devil Seeds
Sometimes I miss the simplicity and societal innocence of the Eighties and Nineties…
One afternoon I was sitting in the park after school with my sad little baggy of cheap weed, when a small leaf caught my eye. It was a tiny pot plant, growing proudly right in the middle of the park! Probably from someone else’s cheap bag of stems and seeds…
I pointed it out to a friend and he looked genuinely terrified, so I picked it and put it on his knee. He jumped up and ran out of the park, not exactly what I had expected.
But it gave me a rather genius idea…
I started saving my seeds and I scattered them all over town, in the woods, in people’s gardens, I even planted them in front of the police station. Not even house plants were safe from my seeds of terror!
The plants started popping up all over town. Of course this was at the height of the Satanic Panic and a sure sign the apocalypse was upon us.
The whole town was paralyzed by local news reports of new “devil’s lettuce”sightings. The locals were convinced it was a sign we had a satanic cult in our midst.
What a fun summer!
I heard from a friend a few years ago that pot still grows wild in the woods next to the park.
The legend of Johnny Devil seeds lives on!

Haha what I wouldn’t give to have lived through that time period. This is something I would’ve done 😂 keep planting your seeds🫶🏽
